Designer Patterns Worth the Extra Cost?
Designer patterns often come with a higher price tag compared to regular patterns. This is because couture houses cater to a select clientele, and couture patterns often require using luxury fabrics for their exclusive designs and styles. While there was a market for couture patterns, still, many American women preferred practical and easy-to-sew options. There was once a resistance against sewing complicated Paris Couture on Main Street, USA! To compensate for the limited audience, pattern companies increased the cost of designer patterns. Couture patterns also entailed more work to publish, including detailed drawings and instructions, photographs in Paris, toile deconstructing and grading complex cuts, and deciphering the original designs. Pattern companies also needed to pay licensing fees. All these efforts resulted in a higher cost for the end product. Today, couture patterns are increasingly rare. Even if a billionaire heiress wanted to buy a vintage Dior or Fath pattern, they would need to become available to bid on. Couture patterns are becoming increasingly rare and difficult to access, adding to their value and maintaining a high market price.
