Respect for the Première in Haute Couture

What is the role of the “Première?" The Première is the head seamstress in a couture atelier. Think of her as the orchestra conductor of the "les petites mains." It’s her perfectionist eye and deep understanding of the craft that transforms the designer’s vision into a masterpiece. But, did you know that the premiere is always respectfully addressed as “Madame," no matter her married status or age? This tradition shows respect for her knowledge and skill, as well as honoring the métier, while acknowledging her important position within the Atelier.
