Medieval Fabric: Cloth-Of-Gold
I came across "Cloth-of-Gold" while conducting research today. Cloth-of-Gold is a historic, luxurious fabric made by weaving gold or silver threads with silk, wool, or linen. It was a highly valued textile in medieval Europe and was often used to create clothing and furnishings for royalty and nobility. Cloth of gold was popular during the Renaissance period, when it was used for elaborate garments worn by monarchs and aristocrats for special occasions and ceremonial events. Cloth-of-Gold was used during the coronation of QEII. Due to its high cost, cloth of gold was a symbol of wealth, power, and prestige, and was reserved for the wealthiest and most important members of society. I wonder if we will see the revival of Cloth-of-Gold during the coronation of King Charles.
