Fashion Field Trip: Pleating Studio Tour in Los Angeles

Time & Location

Oct 22, 2025, 9:30 AM

Hotel Figueroa, 939 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90015, USA

About the event

We don’t have to go to Paris. This fall, the Couture Pattern Museum invites you to experience how couture pleats are made: the traditional way with cardboard patterns and steam…right here in Southern California.

Tony Gomez, President of Twins Pleating, a family-run atelier with over 30 years of experience, is opening its doors to us for a private, in-person tour. This is a rare opportunity to see traditional pleating done with handcrafted cardboard molds and a steam box, using no chemicals. These methods have been part of couture for over a century. It is labor-intensive, highly skilled, and nearly obsolete with only a handful of craftsmen left in America.

This company has pleated gowns for the Met Gala, Oscars, Disney, and performers and celebrities like Lady Gaga, Angela Bassett, Kylie Jenner, and Gwen Stefani. After this fashion field trip, you’ll understand how it all happens and gain greater insight into…
