Balenciaga Dress and McCall’s Pattern

This 1965 Balenciaga couture "Baby Doll" cocktail dress sold at Kerry Taylor auctions for £14,000.


Balenciaga didn't have a contract with McCall's or Vogue. This didn't stop patternmakers from attempting to imitate his couture dresses.


This McCall's pattern from 1958 exemplifies how pattern companies still attempted to imitate popular haute couture designs, even if they didn't have a formal contract with the design house.

I’m not aware of many Balenciaga patterns, but I do have a Spadea Suzy Perette reproduction of a Balenciaga from the 1960s.
